Sheffield United
Approval date: 16 October 2026
Publication date: 21 October 2026
Additional Duty Approval Type: Section 46 – Using home ground as security
Outcome: The IFR granted approval for Sheffield United to enter into transaction to use the interest the regulated club holds in its home ground as security for a loan, as notified by the Club to the IFR.
Details
The Club notified the IFR on 18 September 2026 that there was a reasonable prospect of the Club (being a regulated club) using an interest that the Club holds in its home ground as security for a loan. The Club’s notification included details of the purpose of the loan, the terms of the agreement, the Club’s debt profile and the Club’s financial forecast.
The IFR grants approval under section 46(6) of the Act to the Club to enter into transaction as notified by the Club to the IFR.
This means that, having considered the factors in section 46(6) of the Act the IFR has concluded that:
- The Club provided a notification under subsection 46(1) as soon as reasonably practicable after the Club considered there was a reasonable prospect of this duty arising.
- The transaction, as notified by the Club to the IFR, would not undermine the financial sustainability of the Club.
