Sanctions

This guidance explains the IFR’s approach to using its sanctions powers under the Football Governance Act 2025. These powers are part of the IFR's wider set of tools for ensuring that owners, clubs and others meet their obligations under the regime. Whilst the IFR has made clear that it will not be "enforcement-led" given this wider toolkit, these powers will help us deter and address certain failures by clubs, owners, officers, senior managers and competition organisers to meet their obligations — from providing accurate information to complying with regulatory requirements.
