Jessica Simor KC

Jessica Simor KC is widely recognised as one of the United Kingdom’s leading specialists in public, regulatory and human rights law. She is a founding member of Matrix Chambers, established in 2000 and took silk in 2013.  After being called to the Bar in 1992, she began her career at Monckton Chambers specialising in competition and state aid,  before undertaking significant legal work across Europe, including at the European Commission (Environment Directorate), the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, and the Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office in Sarajevo. Her work spans high‑profile constitutional, human rights, energy, environmental, and EU law cases, amongst other, representing the Klimaseniorinnen in Strasbourg in the first case on human right and climate change; acting for a Claimant in the Miller Article 50 litigation and challenges in Luxembourg relating to data retention and privacy. 

 

Jessica is the original author and current Consultant Editor of Human Rights Practice, a leading text in the field. She serves as a Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics and Goldsmiths, contributing widely to legal scholarship on public law, climate change, energy, sustainability, and regulatory frameworks. She is Bencher of Middle Temple, was Chair of the Bar European Group, is on the Council of Justice, and was the UK nominee for Judge at the European Court of Human Rights in 2016.
